Lynda Lucas forms new band in Dublin

by Dave Carew

Lynda Lucas of Dublin, Ireland—the singer-songwriter who conducted two successful tours of Nashville clubs and house concerts in 2011—has formed a new, all-female band in Dublin called the Wayfaring Strangers.

After first seeing her perform at The 5 Spot in 2009, I wrote in Underground Nashville that Lynda Lucas is “an absolute stand-out artist. . . Like hearing an Irish Gillian Welch or Eva Cassidy sing Americana tunes.” Lynda’s Nashville tour last year included successful shows at The Listening Room Café, the Commodore Lounge, the ItsAllAboutZMusic house concert, and a private house concert in Nashville.

Lynda’s new band should widen her musical appeal even further. “I really decided to go back to my Irish/Greek roots musically, and I was very lucky the band came together organically,” she wrote in an email on Tuesday. “Currently we are playing a lot of open mic nights around Dublin, as it’s the best way to get out and just play. The girls are all very accomplished musicians, which is a real bonus.”

So do the Wayfaring Strangers have plans to visit Nashville in 2012?

“The idea sounds great,” Lynda responds. “And the girls would love that, too. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s possible this year. But who knows what may happen?”

Asked what her immediate plans are, Lynda responds, “I am hoping to record with Wayfaring Strangers, and am looking forward to what we will produce. So the future is looking good.”
