Thoughts from the shadows of a great American city

Why should you support Special Olympics Tennessee? A letter I just received answers that question beautifully. It reads in part, “Through sports, Special Olympics athletes learn teamwork and fair play. They develop self-confidence and self-esteem. They gain the opportunity to realize their potential. These athletes challenge every negative stereotype and rise above every rejection, to tell the world that individuals with intellectual disabilities can be leaders, can be heroes.” To support Special Olympics Tennessee, please call 1-800-643-1691.

U.S. House to vote tomorrow on healthcare reform – Make your feelings known

by Dave Carew

The U.S. House of Representatives is now scheduled to vote on healthcare reform on Saturday. All signs point to the vote being extremely close—possibly even coming down to a single vote.

With the clock ticking, Underground Nashville urges you to make your feelings known. Please call U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper at 202-225-4311 or Marsha Blackburn (if you live in Williamson County) at 202-225-2811.

If you haven’t called before, now is the time. The outcome of this vote will help shape policies that will directly affect your life for years to come. Don’t miss the opportunity to tell your elected representatives how you feel about it.
